Margaret (Margie) Chard

Funeral services for Margaret (Margie) Chard, were March 7, 1997, at the Bader Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Lohr officiating. Burial was in the Bodark Cemetery in Harrison, Neb. Memorials are to the Niobrara County/Lusk E. M. T. Services.

Chard, a long-time resident of Niobrara County, died March 4, 1997, at Niobrara County Memorial Hospital.

She was born June 22, 1911, to Robert and Oressa Jordan on their Indian Creek ranch. She and her husband Vernon "Bunny" Chard grew up on ranches about four miles apart, then attended grade school together. She graduated from St. Agnes Academy High School in Alliance, Neb.

On Oct 9, 1933, Margie and Bunny Chard were married in Ardmore, SD by the Rev. Biever. They worked for Bolin & Dunn in Opha, Wyo., until 1935 when they moved back to Oressa Jordan's ranch.

In 1941, they purchased the Bill Shepard Cow Camp and Chauncey Wolff place on Indian Creek, west of the Jordan ranch.

She lived on the ranch until one-and one-half years ago, when she moved to Lusk. Her great-niece, Chris and her husband, Melvin Thayer are on the ranch now.

She and her husband had no natural children, but their many nieces and nephews and their families were counted as their own.

She insisted that she teach them all how to talk on a country party line. Additionally, her cats became valued friends and a source of comfort after the death of her husband.

She will be remembered for her delicious chicken and noodles, being a lover and collector of antiques, singing and her many poems. She was always willing to write a poem when the occasion called for one and requests were numerous.

She belonged to the B. P. O. E. Does as a charter member, Stagecoach Museum, Indian Creek Homemaker's Club, Indian Creek Bridge Club and the Rawhide pageant cast. She was an active member of the library for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1984; her parents; an infant brother and sister; and brother Ed Jordan.

Survivors include sisters Sarah Hartman of Lusk and Bernice Sampont of Osborn, Idaho; brother Daniel Jordan and wife Velma of Lusk; nieces and their spouses Bobbee and John Magan of Longmont, Colo., Sharon Conner of Wallace, Idaho; Margo and Kayo Welch of Wallace; Janet and Dale Lucas of Kellogg, Idaho, Sherry and Jack Larson of Scottsbluff, Neb.; nephews Jack Sankey of Portland, Ore., and Dale and Dorothy Jordan of Lusk; great-nieces and nephews and their spouses Leslie and Lester Balcom, Christine and Melvin Thayer, Kathy Jo Magan, Debbie and Efrain Corona, Chris and Val Mohr, Dale and Lorie Mohr, Janice and Gil Corona, Linda and Shane Trice, Scott and Kristina Lee, Mike and Denise Peterson, Blaine and Sherie Peterson, Diana and Jeff Martin, Danese and Jeff Reed, Dean Jordan; and their many children Local great-great-nieces and nephews are Magan and John Thayer, Oresa, Kevin and Marcia Teten; Kaylee, Kristen and Jordan Reed, Tess and Maggie Martin; and Colton Magan.
