Harriet Elaine Haddix
Harriet Elaine Haddix, age 71, of Guernsey, Wyoming passed away at the Billings Clinic Hospital in Billings, Montana on Monday, Sept. 28, 2009 following a short illness. Services were held Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 at the United Presbyterian Church, with interment at the Fort Laramie Cemetery near Fort Laramie, Wyo.
Harriet was born in Guernsey, Wyo. on Aug. 16, 1938 to Harry and Marlea (Pierce) Walker. She was raised in the mining town of Sunrise, Wyo., where she graduated from high school in 1956. Harriet married her husband of fifty years, Robert Donnell Haddix, on June 23, 1957 at the little brown church in Sunrise. The couple farmed near Yoder, Wyoming prior to moving to Sunrise when Bob went to work at the CF&I iron ore mine. There the couple had two children, Cindy and David. In the early 1960's the family lived in Lusk for a short period while the iron ore mine workers were on strike. In 1966 the family moved to Guernsey where they had two more children, Monte and Becky. Harriet worked as a part-time postal clerk in Hartville, Wyo. and at Crazy Tony's restaurant in Guernsey as a waitress before going to work in the 1980's for Burlington Northern Railroad from which she retired in the late 1990's. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Guernsey. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, sewing/crocheting, playing cards and bargain shopping.
Harriet is survived by her children and their spouses: Cindy (Jay) Gruwell of Lusk, Wyo.; David (Sue) Haddix, Monte (Melisa) Haddix and Becky (Sean) Prelle all of Gillette, Wyo. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Lindsey (Terry) Allbright of Lusk, Wyo.; Kelli (Kevin) Little of Gillette; Dustin Gruwell serving the U.S. Navy, currently stationed at Whidbey Island, Wash.; Tyler and Dylan Haddix; Alyssa, Erika and Camille Prelle; and Storm and Aspen Haddix all of Gillette; three great-grandchildren: Phoebe and Tia Allbright of Lusk; and Maci Little of Gillette; one sister, Barbara Martellaro of Denver, Colo.; and one brother, David Walker of Kemmerer, Wyo. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2007, and her parents.
Memorials in Harriet's name may be made to the St. George's Episcopal Church's Mustard Seed project in Lusk or to the United Presbyterian Church in Guernsey.
