Elizabeth Aletha Case or Bessie Case as she was known to her many friends was born in Michigan on December 5, 1877, to Edwin and Helen (Covey) Case. She was one of seven children and the only one who was living.
She came to Sioux County in 1898 and made her home with her uncle, Henry Covey.
Her parents lived in Michigan on a farm for a time. Later her father worked as mortician and cabinet builder. Prior to these endeavors he served in the Union Army and was injured while in the service.
In 1903 Mr. and Mrs. Case came to Sioux County and homesteaded seven miles northeast of Harrison. After Mr. Case's passing Mrs. Case and daughter Bessie lived in Harrison for a number of years. After her mother's death Bessie made her home with Mrs. Mary Cross and since 1959 they resided in Harrison.
Bessie Case had many interests. She liked to garden and grew many beautiful flowers. She was an avid reader and spent her leisure time reading her Bible.
Nearly six years ago she sustained a fracture. For the past four years she has been living in the Crest View Manor at Chadron. The first years she was there she participated in the weekly discussions and was well prepared to take part.
