Sarah Ann Carroll, 78, Dies at Hastings
Sarah Ann Carroll, 78, long time resident of the North Platte Valley, died recently at Hastings, Nebr. She was born March 13 at Washburn, Wis. She attended schools in Washburn, Ashland and Odessa, Wis. and graduated from Washburn High School and Ashland Business College.
She was employed as a stenographer for Stears Lumber Co. and the U. S. Government Land Office in Midland, S. Dak. She married William I. Carroll in October, 1911 at Gurley, Nebr. They homesteaded in Sioux County and later moved to Harrison, Alliance, Scottsbluff, and Minatare. She had lived in Scottsbluff and Gering for the past 10 years. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America, the American Legion Auxiliary at Minatare, and the Royal Neighbors of America.
Survivors include one son, William of Minatare; two daughters, Mrs. Calyton DeMott of Gering, and Mrs. Frank Campbell of Fairfield, Calif.; one brother, Williard Ryan of Eveleth, Minn.; three sisters, Mrs. Martin Haley, Sr. of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Evelyn Lundstrom of Little Marais, Minn.; and Mrs. Isabelle Jones of La Jolla, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, two sisters, and her parents.
Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Minatare with the Rev. Robert F. Chamberlain officiating. Burial was in East Lawn Cemetery at Minatare. Rosary was recited at the Benson-Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff.
A Memorial has been established to the St. Christopher Child Care Center in Scottsbluff.
