Mrs. Cantwell Dies After Long Illness

Mrs. Clara Cantwell, wife of County Assessor T. L. Cantwell, passed away at the Lusk Hospital on Tuesday, April 1st, at 2:30 p. m. after an illness lasting over a period of several years.

Mrs. Cantwell came to Lusk 18 years ago and was married to Mr. Cantwell on August 28, 1937, and they have resided here since that time.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Peet Chapel on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. Lawrence P. Juell officiating.

Interment will be made in the Lusk Cemetery.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Cantwell is survived by two sons, Bert Gibson of Lusk, and Kenneth Gibson of Igloo, So. Dak., and three grandchildren.

Final Tribute Paid To Mrs. Cantwell

A large number of friends paid final tribute to Mrs. Clara E. Cantwell when funeral services were conducted at the Peet Chapel on Thursday afternoon, April 3, at 2:30.

Rev. Lawrence P. Juell, pastor of the Congregational Church of which Mrs. Cantwell was a member, officiated at the service.

The songs, "The Old Rugged Cross," and "It Is Well With My Soul" were sung by members of the Congregational Choir, Mrs. H. J. Templeton, Mrs. I. J. Reiste, Gerald Bardo, Don c. Taylor, and William G. Watt with Mrs. Bardo playing the organ.

The casket bearers were Ernest C. Schuricht, Joseph Kuhn, Curtis Grimm, Roy McLain, Walter Tyrell and O. M. Rasmussen, who conducted the remains to its last resting place in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mrs. Cantwell had been in ill health for a number of years and passed away at the Lusk Hospital April 1.

Clara Elizabeth Greene was born July 1, 1889 at Everton, Dade County, Missouri. She was the daughter of John T. and Mandy Greene and received her education in the schools at Everton.

August 30, 1908 she was married to Charles Gibson at Galva, Kansas and they are the parents of two sons. In 1912 the family moved to Eaton, Colorado where they resided until 1929 when Mrs. Gibson and the boys came to Lusk. She was employed at various occumpations for a number of years and with her sons for a time operated a service station.

On August 28, 1937 she was married to Thomas L. Cantwell, then deputy sheriff and new county assessor of Niobrara County.

Mrs. Cantwell was active in many community enterprises which included Royal Valley Club, the Legion Auxiliary and the Congregational Church and Circle as well as devoting much of her time to church work in former years.

Surviving besides her husband are her two sons, Bertram Gibson of Lusk and Kenneth of Igloo, S. Dak., a sister, Mrs. Belle Jackson of Douglas and three granddaughters, Carmen and Betty Gibson of Lusk and Kay Gibson of Igloo.
