Grace A. Modereger, age 85 of Yankton passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2009 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Monday, April 27, 2009 at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Yankton with Rev. Ken Bain officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton. Visitations will be 2-5 PM, Sunday, April 26, 2009 at Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton with a 4:00 PM rosary and a 4:30 PM prayer service. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Grace's parents, John and Alice (Carlson) Modereger were married in June, 1919 when her father returned from the service. To this union, Grace Alice was born on February 25, 1924 in Yankton and her brother, Jon Franklin born on November 24, 1934 and died in November 1981. Her family moved to Tabor, SD where she attended grade school and graduated from Tabor High School. After graduation, Grace was employed at the Telephone Company in Tabor for six years. She continued her education at the College of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, MN earning a degree as a Lab Technician. The college found her a job in Lusk, Wyoming, where she worked for the next 2 years. Grace returned back to Yankton and became employed at the Yankton Clinic and Yankton Medical Clinic. She enjoyed her job and all of her coworkers for the next 36 years before retiring in 1989.
Her memory will always be cherished by two nephews: Derek and Julie Modereger and their two children, Cassie and Cole, all of Yankton, SD and Myles Moderegger of Sioux Falls, SD; many cousins in Yankton and her special friends and coworkers at the Yankton Medical Clinic.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jon.
