Services for Howard Ernest Britton, 74, who died in Wheatland, Nov. 19, 1986, were held in the Prairie Rest Cemetery in Guernsey Saturday, Nov. 22, 1986.
Pastor Delbert Dick officiated.
Howard Ernest Britton was born in Box Butte County, NE May 7, 1912, the son of James C. and Alice (Jackson) Britton. When he was 10 years old he came to Wyoming in a covered wagon. The family homesteaded near Fort Laramie where he was raised. He and Illa Keane were married in Harrison, NE March 29, 1927.
They lived in Guernsey where Mr. Britton worked on the railroad and for Sunrise Mine. They then moved to Ft. Laramie where they farmed until he was drafted in the U.S. Army. During World War II he served in England, France and Germany. Upon discharge, he returned to work for the railroad in Guernsey then worked on a ranch north of Hartville. The family moved to Glendo where he worked for Johnson Ranches until his retirement.
Besides his wife, Illa of Glendo, he is survived by six sons, Jim and Dale of Hanna, Bill of Hartville, Don of Wheatland, Ben and Larry of Glendo; six daughters, Eve Carlson of Guernsey, Laura Moore of Hartville, Linda Miller of Wheatland, Kay Brooks of Glendo, Donna Harvey of Lance Creek and Karen Montazari of Hicksville, NY; two sisters, Jennie Goolsby of Guernsey and Nellie Ballenger of Casa Grande, AZ; 28 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and one sister.
A memorial in his name has been established to the Glendo Volunteer Ambulance Service.
Schrader-Prell Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
