Services for Robert "Bob" C. Dunham, 68, were held Oct. 18, 1986 at the Community Congregational Church in Big Piney with the Rev. Eric Lison officiating.
Burial was in the Plainview Cemetery with services conducted by Hudson Funeral Home. The pallbearers wee Melvin Neal, Fred Virostko, John Hayden, Darryl Copeland, George Nichols and John Kovach.
Mr. Dunham died Oct. 14, 1986 at his home in Lusk. Born Jan. 27, 1918, in Hillmont, WY, he was the son of H.C. (Doc) and Harriette Dent Dunham. He was raised in Sublette County and attended school in Big Piney, graduating from high school in 1935.
He joined the U.S. Marines, serving from 1936-40. He re-enlisted in 1943 and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He also served in the occupation in Japan until 1946, when he was honorably discharged. He was known to his buddies as the "Salt Water Cowboy."
After the war, Mr. Dunham joined the police force in Long Beach, CA, where he served for several years.
He returned to Wyoming in 1950 and for the next 113 years was employed in the oil fields. That same year he married Gladys Olafson of Lusk.
In 1963, Mr. Dunham returned to California. He was employed by United Insurance Co. of America. When he retired in 1982, he returned to Big Piney. He was living in Lusk at the time of his death.
Mr. Dunham was a member of Lusk B.P.O.E. Lodge, American Legion Post 4 and the V.F. W.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Otho and Clevelyn; one sister, Iris, three nephews and one brother-in-law.
Survivors include his sister, Flora Miley of Big Piney; two nephews, two great-nieces and one great-nephew, plus numerous other relatives and friends.
