Maria Magadalena Kahler
Maria Magadalena Brunsch Kahler died Oct. 10, 1985, at a Rapid city, S.D. hospital. She was 82.
Funeral services were held Oct. 14 at Christ Lutheran Church at Winner, S.D. Burial was in Colome Cemetery, Colome, S.D.
The daughter of William and Louisa Nitschke Brunsch, she was born Aug. 24, 1903, at Rosenfeld in southern Russia.
She came to the United States with her family at the age of four. The family lived on a farm in Tripp County, Lake Township, S.D.
She married William Kahler Feb. 27, 1921. They lived on his homestead in Lake Township north of Rohn Dam until Dec. 1938, when he purchased the Ferdinand Kahler farm. She moved to Colome a few years after her husband's death in 1951.
She later made her home with a daughter in Winner and for the past six months had lived in Lusk with her daughter, Esther Matthews.
Mrs. Kahler is survived by her five children, Esther Matthews, Theodor of Calgary, Canada, Arthur of Sioux City, Iowa, and Evelyn Baartz of Winner; a brother, Paul Brunsch of Norris, S.D.; three sisters, Minnie Ring of Norris, Olga Nelson of Hiawassee, Ark., and Emelia Keever of Winner; a half-brother, William Wind of Lodi, Calif; three step brothers, four step-sisters, 26 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Freda.
