Former Lance Creek Child Drowns
Word has been received here of the death of Elizabeth Brookshire, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Brookshire of Thermopolis, who drowned in Ten Sleep creek Saturday morning, July 19, while she and her family were on a camping trip.
The Brookshires lived in Lance Creek for many years and have many friends in this region. They moved away about two years ago. Elizabeth attended her first year of school at Lance Creek.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church Tuesday July 22 by the Rev. Marley M. Pulis of Thermopolis and the Rev. Joe Wiens of Powell. Interment was in the Monument Mill cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tommie Shaffer, Jimmie Bales, Sonne Hooper and John Carl Boyd.
The Thermopolis Independent Record describes the accident as follows:
The little girl was accidentlly drowned Saturday about 10 a.m. in Ten Sleep creek near the fish hatchery. The family were camped in the nearby Leigh Creek camp ground where they had gone for a pleasure trip.
Artificial respiration was used all the way until the child was in the Worland hospital, but they were unable to revive her.
Elizabeth Ann was born July 7, 1938 in Thermopolis, and is survived by her parents and a younger sister and brother.
