Alberta was born on Nov. 22, 1912 in Seward, Neb. to Theodore and Sadie Grigsby. They moved to Newcastle when Alberta was three months old, where her folks worked for Ed Boles in the Boles Canyon. In 1914 her folks homesteaded in the Red Bird Canyon. She was the oldest of six children, all who have passed on before her. When Alberta was 10 years old, the family moved back to Neb., then returned to Newcastle when she was 16. Her mother, Sadie was very well known in the Newcastle area for playing the violin at country dances.
Alberta married Clarence Mann on March 9, 1931. They lived in Boles Canyon, Custer State Park, and the Newcastle area. They had three children, Elaine, Jerry, and Bobby.
In 1954, Alberta and Clarence moved to Corvallis, Mont., and then lived in Missoula for many years. She worked at a Circle K in Missoula for eight years before retiring, and was named Manager of the Year several times. Clarence and Alberta were married for 50 years, before he passed away on Dec. 15, 1981. After his passing, Alberta lived for a short time in Lusk, and then moved to Hamilton, Montana for nine years. She had friends there, and enjoyed the frequent country western dances that were held in the area.
Alberta returned to Wyoming in her 80's when her eyesight began to fail and she had to give up driving. She enjoyed living independently in the Senior Apartments in Newcastle until just a year ago, when she decided she was ready to enter the Manor Nursing Home in Newcastle. She did well until Jan. of this year, when her heart began to fail.
She will be remembered for her upbeat attitude, sense of humor, and independent spirit.
Alberta is survived by her daughter, Elaine Graves (Bob) Lancaster of Lusk, Wyo.; grandchildren Karen Stroh of North Platte, Neb.; Stan (Lil) Graves of Brigham City, Utah; Donna (Ron) Meier of Lakewood, Colo.; Terri (John) Hovis of Gilbert, Ariz.; and Bill (Renee) Graves of Hot Springs, S.D.; 11 great grandchildren, and 7 great, great grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were her two sons, Jerry and Bobby Mann.
