John Bray, 73, Dies Thursday

John Bray, 73, a resident of Niobrara County for the past thirty years, died at the Lusk Hospital Thursday afternoon, April 10, after a brief illness.

Mr. Bray located on a homestead in the Lance Creek community in 1917, where the family resided for many years. In recent years Mr. Bray has spent considerable time in Lusk, but for several months past he has been staying with his son, Henry Bray and wife, on their ranch near Lance Creek.

The deceased was born at Lake Quinnaball, Nebraska, on December 2, 1873, and grew up in that community, where he assisted his father on their farm.

He was married to Miss Ella Welsh of Decatur, Neb., in 1902, and they were the parents of three children - a daughter who lived just a year, and two sons, Clarence and James.

Mrs. Bray died in 1912, and the following year Mr. Bray was married to Cora McAllister and they have one son, Henry.

Funeral services were conducted from the Peet Chapel on Sunday afternoon at 2:30, with Rev. Ezra Duncan, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating.

Music was furnished by the Misses Dorthy Humphrey and Phyllis Owens, with Mrs. J. P. Watson presiding at the instrument.

Interment was made in the Lusk Cemetery, with the following friends carrying the remains to its last resting place: Frank Paschal, Luther Penfield, Berton Kaper, Verley Altman, John Boatright and Wm. Munsinger.

The survivors are his three sons, Clarence Bray of Pringle, So. Dak., James Bray of Decatur, Neb., and Henry Bray of Lance Creek, Wyo.; three grandchildren, Richard, Leo and Clarence Dean Bray; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Grass, Deadwood, So. Dak., and Mrs. Nettie Grass of Custer, So. Dak. Three step-children, James, Kenneth and Otis McAllister.
