Henry Woodrow Bray

Funeral services for Henry Woodrow Bray were held Jan. 11, 2000, at the Ciemanec-Pier Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Tom Stock officiating. Interment followed in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mr. Bray died Jan. 6, 2000, at the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb.

Henry Bray was born Dec. 26, 1914 to John and Cora Bray at Decatur, Neb.

At the age of three the family moved to his father's homestead 12 miles north of Lance Creek, where he grew up. He attended various country schools in Niobrara County.

Henry married Helen Drazey Nov. 4, 1931, at Manville. They continued to live at the home place. To this union three sons were born, Henry Richard, Leo Woodrow, and John Henry, who died shortly after birth.

Henry was a very gifted person. A friend once said, "all Henry had to do was feel of a motor and it would run". When the family could afford a modern home, he built it and did all the wiring and plumbing.

Henry loved horses and enjoyed training them. He was an excellent rider and you could always find him at a horse sale. He led and active life until his eyesight failed.

When he could no longer take care of a ranch, they sold the ranch in South Dakota, and moved back to Lusk. They bought a house on South Maple Street, where he lived the rest of his life.

He is survived by his wife Helen of 68 years; one son Richard and his wife Arlys of South Dakota; four grandchildren Ricky Bray, Jackie McElhaney, Johnny Bray and Maylene Gutheridge; six great grandchildren John Nelson, Jean Gutheridge, Kristy McElaheny and Kristina McElhaney, and Kristina, Nicole and Mikaela Bray.

A memorial has been designated to the American Heart Association or the donor's choice.

Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home in Lusk was in charge of arrangements.
