Charles Henderson, Early Resident Here, Dies Friday

Charles L. Henderson, 72, and a resident of Wyoming for the past 50 years died at the Spencer Hospital Feb. 1 after a long illness.

He was the son of Samuel D. and Ellen Shouf Henderson and was born Dec. 18, 1879 at Decatur, Ind. Two brothers, John and William, died in infancy and his mother died Nov. 30, 1883. Later his father married Catherine Anspaugh at Decatur, Ind.

When a small boy, Charles moved with his parents and grandfather Henderson, by covered wagon, to a farm near Garnet, Kan. where he grew to manhood.

In 1901 he came by covered wagon with the parents of Charles Blagg and resided here since that time. Henderson worked for the George and Charley Hitshew families for a number of years and then filed on a homestead seven miles northwest of Keeline where he engaged in ranching and farming.

Mr. Henderson was a successful business man as well as rancher and a leader in the community in which he lived. In early maqnhood he united with the Congregational Church of which he was a member at the time of his death.

About three years ago he sold his ranch because of ill health and moved to Lusk. He was critically strickened at the Lusk Hotel Thursday, Jan. 31, and died the following day.

Funeral services were conducted from the Peet Chapel Monday afternoon, Feb. 4 and the body was shipped to Kincaid, Kan. for burial in the family plot.

The Rev. Jacob Nein, pastor of the Congregational Church, officiated at the services and music was furnished by a trio composed of George Gibson, Rex Yocum and Donley Unruh, accompanied by Mrs. A. F. DeCastro at the chapel organ. The casket bearers were Ray Reed, D. A. Shoopman, LeGrande "Dick" Lee, Everett Parmeley, Bill Nuttall and Herman Cox.

Suvivors include five half-brothers: Grover of Mapleton, Kan.; Edward of Ft. Scott, Kan.; Reese and Dayton of Moran, Kan., and three half-sisters, Evelyn Heider, Kincaid, Kan.; Mrs. Edna Charles, Independence, Md., and Mr. Mae Wingrove, Washington, D. C.

The body was accompanied to Kincaid, Kan. by Grover Henderson, Mrs. Evelyn Heider, Mrs. Alice Garrett, who has cared for Mr. Henderson, and Charles Blagg.
