State Treasurer J. R. Mitchell Dies
State Treasurer J. Roy Mitchell died at the Memorial Hospital in Cheyenne about 8:00 o'clock Tuesday morning, May 6th, after a long illness. He was a long-time resident of Casper and was elected State Treasurer at the Nov., 1950, election, taking office Jan. 1, 1951. He became ill shortly after being inducted into office.
Mr. Mitchell was a past district governor of the Rotary Club, past grand master of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Wyoming, and was until his death grand commander of the Knights Templar of Wyoming. He was also a 33rd degree member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.
The body will lie in state in the rotunda of the State Capital from 10:00 a.m. until noon on Thursday, May 8th, followed by Masonic services at the Masonic Temple in Cheyenne. The body will be shipped to his old home in Casper, here funeral services will be held Friday afternoon.
