William James Bales
Bales death reported
The Aug. 29 death of William James Bales, husband of Velma Jean (Reckling) Bales, was known to few people here until recently. Mrs. Bales was the daughter of the late Dr. Walter E. Reckling, Sr. and Jean Reckling.
Mr. Bales and Velma Jean were married at Lusk Sept. 4, 1949. Mrs. Bales, a widely known Wyoming writer, is women's editor of The Laramie Dailey Boomerang and in earlier years was a contributor to Lusk Herald.
Mr. Bales was born in Cheyenne Aug. 30, 1925. He graduated from Cheyenne Central High School, served in the U.S. Army in World War II stationed in Mannheim, Germany, and graduated from the University of Wyoming. For 10 years prior to his death, he had been employed by the University as head of the Accounts Receivable Department.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four daughters: Jamie Wood, Big Piney; Jill Kruse, Parkville, Mo.; Jinny and Blair of Laramie.
