Roy Harrison "Doc" Porter, 62, died at 3:10 Sunday morning, Aug 5 at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital. He had taken seriously ill from a heart attack on July 30 at the Emma Rogers ranch northeast of Manville.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Peet Mortuary with the services conducted by the Rev. Glenn Perry, who also sang "The Last Roundup" as a request number. Rev. Perry is the "cowboy evangelist" of the Open Bible Standard Church.

Mr. Porter was born on July 17, 1889 at Julesburg, Colo. At an early age, he, with his parents, sisters and brother came in a covered wagon to Wyoming and settled on a homestead near Hat Creek, where he lived for several years. He lost his mother and small sister by death in 1900. His father was remarried two years later to Emma Jane Crater, after which the family moved to Pleasant Ridge, living there about two years and then moved into Lusk making it their home for many years where Roy attended school and spent the rest of his boyhood life and grew to manhood.
On Nov. 12, 1912, he was married to Florence Main. To them four children were born; Max Porter of Crawford, Neb., Mrs. Eileen Ellis of Edgemont, S. D., Sam Porter of Lodge Pole, Neb., and Roy Leslie of Crawford.
For the last 20 years he has been employed by Mrs. Emma Rogers on her ranch northeast of Manville. Roy was likeably known for his jovial manner and quick wit. He was often affectionately called "Doc" as a nickname which was always with him. His nearness to God was always found as he rode the open range and prairies where he spent most of his life until his health began to fail.
He was preceded in death by his father on Nov. 28, 1929, and by his brother Rolla on Dec. 14, 1942.
He is survived by his four children and two sisters, Mrs. Etta Taylor of Lynwood, Calif., and Mrs. Lona Peacock of Douglas, Wyo. Also surviving are several grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Marie Porter of Jay Em and the very close friends, Mrs. Emma Rogers and her family, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Huey, Bobby and Billy of Evanston, Wyo., and Mrs. and Mrs. Floyd McCleery, Bill and Nancy.
