Final Rites Held For Mrs. Veda Ross
Funeral services were conducted from the Peet Chapel June 5 at 2:00 o'clock for Mrs. Veda Overacre Ross, 50, wife of Roscoe Ross of Lance Creek, who died suddenly May 31 at 2:30 p.m. following a heart attack.
The Rey. Frank Schweissing conducted the services. Mrs. A. F. DeCastro and Miss Juanita Cork sang, "Going Down the Valley" and "Beautiful Isle." Mrs. Judson P. Watson presided at the chapel organ. Burial was made in the Lusk Cemetery with the following as pallbearers: Charles Sheaman, 0. A. Thompson, A. Hennebeck, D. F. Wilson, C. R. Boston, and C. V. Lee. The Mariposa Chapter No. 35 of Manville, Order of Eastern Star, of which Mrs.
Ross was a member, conducted graveside services at the cemetery.
Veda Overacre was born Dec. 6, 1900 in Rogers, Ark., the daughter of James T. and Hattie Jane Meadlin Overacre. She resided in Rogers until she was two years at which time she moved with her family to Berryville, Ark. In Berryville, she received her educational and spiritual training and grew to womanhood. At the age of 16 Veda Overacre was baptized and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Berryville.
On Feb. 7, 1928 Veda Overacre was married to Henry Roscoe Ross of the Lance Creek community at the home of her parents in Berryville. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Ross made their home on the homestead 45 miles northeast of Lusk. They became the parents of seven children.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lusk, the Sagebrush Pals Extension Club, and the Mariposa Chapter, OES.
Mrs. Ross was preceded in death by her father in 1938. Survivors include: her mother, Mrs. Hattie Jane Overacre; her husband, Roscoe Ross, three daughters, Mrs. Mary Dickau, Shawnee; Jane and Emma Lou at the family home; four sons, Marvin, Thomas, Riley and John, also at the family home; three sisters, Mrs. Neff Snow, Berryville, Ark.; Mrs. A. I. Roll and Mrs. Charles Warren, both of Chicago, Ill.; five brothers, Rolla Overacre, Rapid City; Morris Overacre, McAllister, Okal.; Riley and Alva Overacre, Berryville, Ark.; Thomas Overacre, Teague, Tex.
Out-of-town relatives attending the srvices were: all brothers except Thomas Overacre; Mrs. Neff Now, Berryville; Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Wood, Mr. and Mrs. Will Wood, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Wood, Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Wood, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wood, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lowen, all of Ault, Colo.
