William Humphrey Dies in Lusk Friday

William Edward Humphrey, who came to Lance Creek in 1915, died at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital June 1 at 2:00 p.m. following an illness of one year. Funeral services were conducted from the Peet Chapel June 4 at 2:30 o'clock.

The Rev. F. C. Doctor officiated at the services. Mrs. A. F. DeCastro and Miss Junita Cork sang, "Abide With Me" and "Rock of Ages." Organ accompaniment was furnished by Mrs. Judson P. Watson. Pallbearers were Jim Klindt, Lee Welch, Fred Kettler, Lee Moore, E. C. Schuricht and Joe Traphagan. Burial was made in the Manville Cemetery.

William Edward Humphrey, son of Charles Edward Humphrey and Katherine Shadel Humphrey, was born in Williamsport, Pa. Jan. 7, 1894. He was baptized in infancy and confirmed when about 14 years old.

In 1915 he came to the Lance Creek area with his mother and took up a homestead. Mr. Humphrey, a veteran of World War I, was married Sept. 6, 1933 in Kenosha, Wis. to Anna Klitzke. They came back to Lance Creek and made their home in that community until his death. He was employed as an oil field pumper.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother. Survivors include his widow, Anna; one sister, Mrs. Charles Martell, of Kenosha, Wis. and his only nephew who was named for him, William Edward Humphrey. The nephew is serving with the armed forces in Korea and was the object of much concern to his uncle in his last months.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Martell of Kenosha, Wis. were here for the services.
