Peter J. Glandt, 78, Dies Wed. A.M.

Peter J, Glandt, 78, a resident of this community for 20 years, died at the Niobrara County Memorial Hospital at 4:00 a.m. May 2 following a long illness.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Peet Chapel in this city Friday afternoon with burial being made at Jay Em beside his wife who died in 1928.

He is survived by seven sons, Martin, Lusk; Bill, Manville; Herman, Prairie Center; Gus, Mitchell, Nebr.; Chris, Scottsbluff, Nebr.; Julius, Wheatland; Pete, Battle Creek, Nebr.; 24 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and several other relatives.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his only daughter, Mrs. William Ladwig of Manville, who died in September, 1948.

Final Services Held For Peter J. Glandt

Concluding rites were held at the Peet Chapel May 4 at 2:00 p.m. for Peter Julius Glandt, who died at the Niobrara County Memorial Hospital May 2 due to complications of old age.

The Rev. R. C. Doctor of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Lusk officiated at the service. "Abide With Me" and "Asleep in Jesus" were sung by a mixed quartet composed of Donley Unruh, Mrs. P. J. Owens, Eldon Froke and Mrs. Eldon Froke. Chapel music and the accompaniments were provided by Mrs. Donley Unruh.

Six grandsons of Mr. Glandt acted as casket bearers for the funeral. They were Kenneth M. Glandt, Darold W. Glandt, Woodrow Glandt, William Ladwig, Jr., Richard Ladwig, Harold Ladwig. Burial was made in the family plot at Jay Em.

Peter Julius Glandt was born Jan. 5, 1873 in Schleswig Holstein, Germany. He was baptized in infancy and confirmed in the Lutheran faith shortly before coming to the United States.

He came to Nebraska in 1887 and settled in the Battle Creek community living there for 28 years. On March 25, 1894 he was married to Katharina Werneh. To this union were born seven sons and one daughter.

In 1915 the Glandt family came to Jay Em and homesteaded there. Mrs. Glandt died in 1928 and since that time Mr. Glandt made his home with his son, Martin, of Lusk. P. J. Glandt's only daughter, Mrs. William Ladwig, Sr., preceded him in death in 1948.

Survivors include seven sons, Julius J., Wheatland; Peter H., Battle Creek, Nebr.; William C., Manville; Herman, Torrington; Martin, Lusk; Gustave, Mitchell; Chris, Scottsbluff; two brothers, Bennington, Nebr.; one sister, Mrs. August Holdorf, Benson, Nebr.; 25 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren.
