Ed M Phillips
Ed M. Phillips, Former County Clerk, Dies Very Suddenly in New Mexico
Word was received in Lusk Tuesday morning of the sudden death of Ed M. Phillips at his home in Artesia, New Mexico, where he had been in the employ of a pipe line company since leaving Lusk about three years ago.
The news was received in a wire sent to R. I. Olinger, stating that Mr. Phillips had died very suddenly Tuesday morning of cerebral hemorrhage. No other information was recieved.
It is supposed that the funeral will be held at Centerville, Iowa, his former home.
Mr. Phillips came to Lusk about 18 years ago, and he and his family resided here until 1927, when he retired from the county clerk's office and moved to Artesia. He held the office of county clerk of Niobrara County for four terms, and was also treasurer of the Lusk Masonic Lodge for several years. He came west from near Centerville, Iowa, and lived about four years in South Dakota before he came here. He took up a homestead when he first came to Lusk, and lived in the southeast part of the county.
The Phillips family was prominent in Lusk's social life for many years, and a host of friends sincerely regret to learn of the sudden death of Mr Phillips.
One daughter by a former marriage and a wife and three daughters survive.
