George Reynolds Killed By Auto Near Chadron Friday

The community was plunged into surrow last Friday when it heard of the untimely death of George Reynolds of Chadron, in an automobile crash on the highway near that city.

Mr. Reynolds, who was in the employ of the Graham-Paige Co. of Chadron, was en route home to Chadron from Gordon. Having tire trouble, he stopped along the highway to make a change. It is said he was standing in the rear of his car taking off the spare tire, when a new Ford coupe driven by a young man named Frank Kranz, and occupied by two companions, crashed into him, crushing Mr. Reynolds between the two cars.

Karanz and his two companions immediately took the injured man to the Chadron Hospital as fast as possible. He lived two hours, and was conscious until the last moment. Mr. Reynolds said that he neither saw any lights nor heard a sound of an approaching car until he was struck.

The driver of the Ford coupe claims that Mr. Reynolds was standing in front of the tail light on his car, and that they did not see the car until within a few feet of it.

The accident happened at about 7:00 o'clock in the evening, and Mr. Reynolds passed away about 10:00 that night.

Funeral services were held in Chadron on Tuesday, Nov. 6th, from the Congregational Church with the Masonic Lodge in charge. Those attending from here were C. L. Christian, Miss Amy Christian, Andrew Christian, R. E. Christian and wife and James H. Christian.

George M. Reynolds, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Reynolds, was born in Lusk on December 13, 1892.

He lived with his parents on the ranch just south of Lusk, now known as the Baca ranch, and attended the Lusk schools.

In 1911 he was united in marriage with Miss Elmeta Christian, daughter of C. L. Christian.

After leaving Lusk, Mr. Reynolds entered the employ of the Chicago & North-Western Railroad, and at the time of his death still held his rights as fireman, but was on a leave of absence.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Chadron, and this order conducted the services at 2:30 Tuesday, Nov. 6, from the Congregational Church of that city.

The deceased is survived by his widow, son, Oliver, aged 15, and daughter Virginia, age 12 years, of Chadron, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Reynolds; sister, Mrs. Martin, and brother, Russell Reynolds of Quemado, New Mexico, as well as a brother, Louis, of Wanamaker, S. Dak. All were in attendance at the last rites.
