Margaret "Madge" Jane Howard
Miss Madge Howard, Old and Respected Resident, Passes Away Here Monday
Miss Margaret Jane Howard of the Red Bird community passed away at the Manring Home, July 8th, following an attack of rheumatism which was preceded by months of failing health. She had attained the age of 76 years and 8 months and 25 days.
She is survived by her brother John Howard and several nieces and nephews in different parts of the country. One niece is Miss Florence Howard who is a well-known teacher and relief worker of this community.
Miss Howard was born in Polk County, Iowa, and lived in that vicinity for many years. She came to Wyoming in 1910 and homesteaded with her brother John on Old Woman Creek and has resided there since that time.
Funeral services were held at the Congregational church, 10:00 o'clock, Thursday morning, July 11th, Rev. George J. Jenkins officiating.
The pallbearers were Hans Meng, Edwin Pfister, Bill Hollenbeck, Christ Ruffing, Ira Thomas and A. E. Johnston.
Mrs. Edna Howard DeCastro had charge of the music. Two request numbers were "Abide With Me" and "Lead Kindly Light."
Margaret Jane Howard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Howard was born in Polk County, near Runnels, Iowa, October 18th, 1858. Practically all her life was spent in that part of the country until in 1902 she located near Reville, S. D., and moving to Wyoming in 1908, locating near the Red Bird store on Old Woman Creek, where she homesteaded with her brother John Mac Howard.
Miss Howard (Madge, as she is known to her friends) having suffered ill health came to Lusk several months ago and entered the Manrign Convalescent Home where she remained until her demise, July 8th, 1935.
She united with the Christian church at the age of fifteen years and at the age of thirty-five she entered the Congregational church and lived the life of a devout Christian throughout her years. Miss Howard devoted much time and effort in ministering to the needs of her friends and neighbors and was especially a lover and friends of all children. Her patience in trouble and in suffering was a benediction to those who ministered to her.
Miss Howard especially requested that a work of commendation and praise be extended to Mrs. Manring for the devotion and tender care given her during the time of illness.
