Mass celebrated for Mary Bourret
Mass of Christian Burial for Mary E. Bourret, 96, of Torrington was celebrated by the Rev. James Power at St. Rose Catholic Church, Torrington, Saturday, Oct. 15. Interment was in Valley View Cemetery. Rosary was recited on Friday.
Mrs. Bourret, formerly a long time Sioux County resident, died Wednesday at Torrington Community Hospital.
A memorial has been established to the Organ Fund at St. Rose Catholic Church.
Mrs. Bourret was born Oct. 7, 1881, at Spencer, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Catherine Griffith. She grew up and went to school at Spencer. At the age of 22 she and her brother Thomas moved to a homestead in Sioux County. She attended Chadron College and was a school teacher for a number of years near Harrison.
October 2, 1907, she and John Bourret were married at Crawford. They lived on a ranch south of Harrison on the Niobrara River until 1945 when they retired and moved to Torrington, Mr. Bourret died in 1971.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Mary E. McLaughlin and Mrs. Rosalie Warren, both of Torrington; two sons, John S. Bourret, Jr., Lusk and Charles J. Bourret, Harrison; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, a grandson, three brothers and four sisters.
