Richard Barnette Services Are Held

Funeral services for Richard Barnette, 69, who died at the Spencer Hospital in Lusk, Sunday, March 16, were held in the Jay Em Hall, at Jay Em, on Wednesday afternoon of last week, with Rev. George Woodward officiating. Mrs. Lake Harris was in charge of the music.

Interment was made in the Jay Em cemetery. The active casket bearers were Carl Brown, Bob Newall, Ross Starner, Fred Damrow, John Robb and Glint Nolan. The honorary ones were Dan Nolan, Willard Robinette, Clarence Pugsley, Dick Klette, Frank Canaday and Lake Harris.

Colyer & Colyer Mortuary of Torrington was in charge of arrangements.

Richard Barnette was born in Morris County, New Jersey, on February 19, 1878, the son of Gasper and Josephine Barnette. He had been a resident of Wyoming 49 years, residing on the Emma ranch, some 30 miles southwest of Lusk. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War.

August 28, 1906, he was married to Sue Shoults, in Cheyenne, and they are the parents of a son, Richard Temple Barnette.

Mr. Barnette is survived by his wife and son; two brothers, Temple and Larry Barnette of Chicago, and a sister, Mrs. Joe Bradshaw of Morristown, N. J.

John W. Agnew, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Windom and Mr. and Mrs. Don C. Taylor were among those from Lusk attending the funeral
services.

Barnette Services Held at Jay-Em

Funeral services for Richard Barnette were held Wednesday afternoon, March 19 at Jay Em with the Rev. George Woodard officiating. The body was laid to rest in the Jay Em Cemetery.

Mr. Barnette was born at Bergenpoint, New Jersey, Feb. 19, 1878. As a boy he attended military school at Peekskill on the Hudson. He served in the Spanish American War in Cuba and Puerto Rico. After returning to the United States he came west and was employed at the P. O. Ranch near Cheyenne.

Later he went to work for the Swan Land and Cattle Company at Chugwater, Wyo.

In August, 1906 he was married to Miss Sue Shoults of Guernsey. The wedding took place in Cheyenne. In 1914 he homesteaded in the northern part of Goshen County, later removing to the present home of the family, the Emma Ranch. To them were born four children of whom one, Richard Temple Barnette, survives.

Surviving are his wife and son, a sister, Mrs. Joe Bradshaw of Morristown, N. J.; two brothers, Larry and L. T. Barnette of Chicago. He was preceded in death by a brother and sister, Gaspar C. Barnette and Anita Crawford.
