Mrs. W. T. Brettell Dies Saturday After Long Illness

A large crowd, especially of rural people, paid tribute to one of a family that has served them for ten years, at funeral services for Mrs. Wilbur T. Brettell, Sunday afternoon.

Mrs. Brettell, ill for many years with Hodgkins disease, a disease of the lymphatic system, which she and her family knew to be incurable, died quietly in her sleep at the Spencer Hospital about 4:00 o'clock Saturday morning.

As the wife of Niobrara's County Agricultural agent, she had gained unusually wide and popular acquaintance over the county, served with 4-H and Extension clubs, been active in Lusk Girl Scout work.

Grace Brettell was born February 8, 1911, at Watonga, Okla., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Collins. The family moved to Laramie in 1914, where Mrs. Brettell attended school, graduating from Laramie High School in 1928. Afterward she attended the University of Wyoming.

She married Wilbur T. Brettell, June 1, 1929, at Fort Collins, Colo. Following his graduation from the University that spring, the couple moved to Hillsdale, Wyo., where he became vocational agriculture instructor in the high school. In 1931 Mr. and Mrs. Brettell moved to Newcastle, where he held a similar position until 1935. At that time Mr. Brettell became rehabilitation supervisor in Niobrara County and the family then moved to Lusk. In 1937 he became county agent.

Mrs. Brettell was a member of the Congregational Church of Lusk, of the Lusk Woman's Club, the Triple B Extension Club, and the O.N.O. Club.

Besides her husband, she leaves two children, Betty, 14, and Bobby, 10; her father and mother, who live in Laramie; a brother, O. J. Collins, Laramie; a brother, V. A. Colins, Cheyenne. An aunt and two uncles, Mrs. Susie Fox, and John and Elmer Thaxton, live at Enid, Okla.

Her mother came from Laramie Tuesday to be with the family. The father and two brothers and their families came to Lusk Saturday.

Funeral Serivces Sunday Afternoon
The funeral services were held from the Peet Chapel Sunday afternoon at 3:30, with Rev. Lawrence Juell, pastor of the Congregational Church, officiating. The Congregational choir sang an anthem, "God Shall Wipe Away All Tears," Romo; and Mrs. H. J. Templeton sang the 4-H song which Mrs. Brettell had loved, "Dreaming," Perish; Mrs. Gerald Bardo was organist.

Pallbearers were ranch and farm men from over the county - Tom Pfister, Herbert Sabin, C.A. David, C. W. Pfeifer, J. M. Ringer and Bruce Parsons.

The body was taken Monday to Laramie, where Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 services were held from the Shannon Funeral Home and interment was in Greenhill Cemetery.
