George William Riehle

Funeral services for George William Riehle, 85, were held April 23 at the First Baptist Church in Douglas with Pastor Delbert Dick (Retired) of the American Missionary Fellowship officiating. Interment followed at the Douglas Park Cemetery.

The Lord called George home on April 18, 2008 at the Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas.

He was born Oct. 29, 1922 in Douglas, the youngest child of Jacob and Lena (Junger) Riehle. He was raised on the family ranch near Dry Creek and attended grade school there. He worked on the ranch before serving in the United States Army during World War II, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was on the front lines until being disabled. He was hospitalized for six months before receiving a medical discharge in 1945. After recovering he returned to the ranch, living on the home place for several years before moving to the ranch near Lightning Creek.

George was a long time member of Wyoming Stockgrowers. He served on the PCA Board of Directors for many years and was instrumental in getting telephone service in northern Converse County.

He married June Riehle on Oct. 15, 1995 in Buffalo, Wyo. They continued to live on the ranch for nearly ten years, before moving to their home in Douglas, where he was still residing.

He was a devout Christian and attended American Missionary Fellowship Rural Sunday Schools all of his life. In the early years at Dry Creek and later helping start the Walker Creek Sunday School, where he taught the adult class until recent years and was acting Superintendent at the time of his death.

George was always there for friends and neighbors to lend a hand when help was needed. He loved doing things with his family and was a favorite of all the kids. He was always there for some guidance or advice. He was "Uncle George" to three generations of nieces and nephews including many of their friends and kids who worked on the ranch.

He is survived by two step-children, Wayne (Jan) Riehle of Douglas and Donna (Clayton) Dixon of Lance Creek; five step grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father on Dec. 9, 1967; his mother on May 18, 1959; wife, June on October 17. 2006; four brothers, Herbert, Rowland, August, and Raymond; and four sisters, Dora Riehle, Pauline Roesch, Anna Jarmon, and Mary Steinle.

Serving as pallbearers were Tom Reed, Fay Edison, Roger Elerbeck, Chuck Pellatz, Bud Middleton, and Richard Wallis. Serving as honorary pallbearers were all of his many friends.

A memorial to the American Missionary Fellowship in care of David Dick, 410 North Sixth Street, Douglas, Wyoming 82633 or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.

Gorman Funeral Homes - Converse Chapel of Douglas was in charge of the arrangements.
