Mrs. Sarah Brown Dies at Daughter's Home, Aged 84
Mother of Mrs. Edmondson and Mrs. Beach Passes Away in Lusk Monday
Mrs. Sarah Brown, mother of Mrs. W. W. Edmondson of this city, passed away at the Edmondson home Monday evening, May 17, being 84 years, 4 months and 23 days of age at the time of her passing. The deceased has resided in Lusk for the past nine years, living with her daughter since the death of her husband several years ago.
A service was held in the chapel of the Peet Mortuary, Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Ward of the Douglas Episcopal Church officiating.
Pallbearers were J. M. Bishop, N. E. Hartwell, Joe Kuhn, Foster Rogers, Chris Joss, Frank Barrett. The pallbearers accompanied the body to Newcastle Thursday for interment beside the grave of her husband, James Emerson, who passed away in 1932.
Rev. Ralph Snyder of the Newcastle Methodist Church conducted the services there.
Sarah Ann Nunn was born at Malahide, Ontario, Canada, on December 25, 1852. She was one of ten children of Jonathan and Charlotte (Taylor) Nunn.
She was married at Ingersoll, Onatario, on March 21, 1877, to James Emerson Brown, whose birth date is September 6, 1854. The Browns lived in Canada until 1890, where Mr. Brown was engaged in the dairy business. They then moved to Saginaw County, Michigan, with their five living children.
In 1909 the Browns came to Wyoming where with other members of the family they homesteaded on lands near Newcastle, Wyo., and here they have resided until moving to Lusk.
On March 21, 1927, Mr. and Mrs. Brown celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. The home of their daughter, Mrs. Val Jessen, in Newcastle, was the scene of the celebration, and the guests in attendance numbered over the hundred mark. All of the children, with their families, except one son who resides in Michigan, were present on this occasion.
Mrs. Brown was a member of the D. A. R., her membership being established on the service of her great grandfather, John Collard, of Westchester County, New York.
Mr. Brown preceded his wife in death on July 3, 1932, at Newcastle. Mr. and Mrs. Brown had six children born to them in Canada before coming to the United States, five of these children surviving, as follows: Cora May, now Mrs. Alfred Holmes Beach, Flint, Mich., the mother of six children; Elwood James, now a resident of Hemlock, Mich.; Ellsworth, a twin of Elwood James, who died in childhood; Edna C., now Mrs. Valdemar Jessen of Grand Junction, Colo.; Fred Wesley, now a resident in Saginaw, Mich.; Mabel Frances, now Mrs. W. W. Edmondson of Lusk.
