Mrs. A. S. Barker, For Years Resident of County, Dies After Lingering Illness

It was with regret that the friends of Mrs. A. S. Barker heard the word on Friday, last, that the reaper had entered her home and called her away. Her cheerful face will be missed in the neighborhood in which she lived, but many a kind deed will live in the memories of those who knew her. It is hard to see such characters as Mrs. Barker go out of any community. She had that wonderful faculty of meeting everyone with a smile, a thing not always easy.

Mrs. Barker had been suffering from ill health for the past year. She left several months ago for California, with the hope that the change of climate would prove beneficial, but it was to no avail. When she found this to be the case she returned to her home near Lusk, where death claimed her.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. W. Johnson at the Baptist church on Monday afternoon and the body laid to rest in the Lusk cemetery, her children all being present to witness the laying away of all that was earthly of their mother.

Mrs. Barker was formerly Miss Minnie Grant Miller, and was born in Union county, Indiana, June 30, 1867. In 1873 she moved with her parents to Hebron, Nebr., where they lived until 1875, when they moved to Hardy, Nebr. In 1882 the family removed to Brown county, Nebr., where she became a faithful member of the Baptist church.

At Winfred, Nebr., she was married on March 1, 1886, to Alonzo S. Barker and to this union three children were born. In April, 1910, the family moved to Lusk, where they have since resided. Mrs. Barker was called home on March 17, 1922, being 54 years, 8 months and 17 days old.

She leaves behind, of her immediate family, her husband, Alonzo S. Barker; one son, Everett Dale Barker; Mrs. Nellie Evelyn Cornell, all of Lusk; one daughter, Mrs. Audrey Marshall, of Los Angeles, Cal., and two brothers, Winifred Scott Miller and Emmett Morton Miller, of Long Pine, Nebr.

We shall miss your smile and word of cheer,
And we wish we could sometimes feel you near;
But some of your lessons we'll try to follow,
And meet you again in the land of tomorrow.
