Morten F. (Fred) Hansen
Longtime county resident Morten Frederick (Fred) Hansen, 85, died last Sunday at his daughter's home in Glenrock.
A native of Webster Groves, Mo., he was the son of Peter Hansen and Karen Johanna Fredericksen.
He spent his childhood in Webster Groves and in 1909, when he was 15, came to Node, where his father filed a homestead claim.
Fred worked for the railroad as a young man and then went to Miles City, Mont., where he worked for Wells Fargo Express Co.
When World War I broke out, Fred enlisted immediately and served in the infantry at various locations in the United States. He was discharged at Ft. Russell, now Ft. Francis E. Warren, in Cheyenne.
Fred returned to Node and again went to work for the railroad.
He married Hazel Irene Anderson at Node in 1921, and two years later they moved to Lusk, where they have been living ever since. They celebrated their 50th anniversary Sept. 28.
Fred was a member of the Weiten-Dupes American Legion Post in Lusk and was a past commander. He also belonged to St. George's Episcopal Church here.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Hazel Nelson of Glenrock, Velma Fore of Casper and Marjorie Lee of Billings; a sister, Carrie Williamson of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Daniel and Godfrey; and a sister, Helen.
A 2 p.m. Wednesday service was scheduled at Peet Mortuary, with the Rev. Charles Wallis officiating.
Minerva Watson was to be the organist and Marilyn Cockreham the soloist, with scheduled songs "Beyond the Sunset" and "Rock of Ages."
Burial was to follow at Lusk Cemetery, with military honors provided by members of the Wieten-Dupes legion post.
Pallbearers were to be David and Richard Ledford, Larry and Marty Stroh, Mike Nash, Gerald Eskeli, Steve Fraser and Edward Lee.
Honorary pallbearers were to be Wayne Eskeli, Oakie Krekeler, Vic Senters, Terry Griffith, Jule Potter, Ralph Lingwood, Woodson Graham, Archie Huey, Mick Coen and Al Lagerberg.
The family prefers memorials to the Wyoming Children's Home Society in Cheyenne.
