Alice E. McNare
Alice E. McNare
A celebration of the life of Alice E. McNare, 101, was conducted Feb. 5 at the Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Lynn Williamson, officiating. She was laid to rest at graveside services on Feb. 6, at the cemetery in Douglas. She died Jan. 31, 2008, at Central Wyoming Hospice Home of natural causes.
She was born Sept. 14, 1906, in Lusk, to Edward Guy "Hiner" Jones and Lena Belle (Root) Jones. She graduated from Lusk High School in 1925. After graduating high school, she taught school in Niobrara County. Growing up in the ranching community, she enjoyed the weekend barn dances and friendships she made.
On July 7, 1926, she married Vern L. McNare in Lusk. They moved to the Tom Bell Ranch at Node, where she enjoyed helping with the ranch chores as well as cooking for all the ranch hands. After leaving the Tom Bell Ranch, they worked on several ranches in Wyoming and Nebraska. Vern preceded her in death on May 10, 1971, after 46 years of marriage.
Her family moved to Douglas in the 1940's, where she enjoyed being the State Museum Curator for many years. Policy made her retire at the age of 65, what a waste of talent and dedication at such a young age.
She was a member of the Rebecca's for over 50 years, holding many local and state offices. She enjoyed knitting and baking her wonderful homemade pies.
Survivors include her daughter, Virginia Belt, a son Art McNare, and his wife, Dorothy, all of Casper; a son, Jack McNare, of Palm Springs, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Garland McNare of Douglas; 12 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren and 11 Great Great Grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lola Belle (Jones) Spracklen; son James McNare; Granddaughter, Sonya (Belt) Morgareidge; and great grandson, Joe Tuberville.
Memorials to the Central Wyoming Hospice Home, 319 S. Wilson, Casper, WY, 82601; the American Heart Association, 330 S. Center, Casper, WY 82601; or to an organization of the donor's choice, may be made and would be appreciated.
