Mother of R.L. Massie Dies at Spearfish
R.L. Massie's mother, Mrs. Minnie P. Massie, 83, of Spearfish, died June 30 after being hospitalized three weeks in a Belle Fourche hospital. Mr. Massie was called Friday to South Dakota and funeral services were conducted in Spearfish Monday, July 3.
Mrs. Massie was one of the early settlers coming to the Black Hills in 1877 in an ox train. Shortly after her arrival in the Black Hills, the Rifle Pit Battle at Beulah was staged.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1928. She is survived by four sons, Charles W. of Colony, Wyo., R.L. Massie of Lusk, Colin of Aluquerque, New Mexico and Walter of Belle Fourche; five grandchildren and thirteen great grand-children.
