Father of Lusk Residents Dies; Services Sunday

John C. Rainey Sr., 76, father of Mrs. R.C. Bafford and John C. Rainey Jr. of Lusk, died in a Brownsville, Tex. hospital of a heart condition Monday. Funeral services will be held at the Peet Chapel in Lusk Sunday, Dec. 29 at 2:00 p.m.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; three sons, John, I.W. of Lake Charles, La. and Robert of Glenrock; six daughters, Mernie Matthies of Orin Junction, Helen Davis of Torrance, Calif., Mary Rock of Casper, Pauline Deyo of Glenrock, Betty Hansen of Casper, and Mrs. Bafford; and 31 grandchildren and 16 great-grandhildren.

Funeral for John C. Rainey Held Sunday

Funeral services for John C. Rainey Sr., 76, were held Sunday afternoon from the Peet Chapel in Lusk with the Rev. James Davis of the First Congregational Church officiating.

Mr. Rainey died December 23 in a Brownsville, Tex. hospital of a heart condition.

Mrs. Gerald Bardo was organist, Mrs. Val DeGroot sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Abide With Me."

Pallbearers were: Harold Hansen, Roy Davis, Leo Matties, Gair Rock, R. C. Bafford and Leonard Deyo.

John Clinton Rainey was born December 30, 1886 at Paris, Tex., the son of Isaac Ballard and Frances Ford Rainey. He spent the early years of his life in Texas and Oklahoma. May 22, 1910 he married Ruth Ethel Norton in Hyer, N.M.

He was a carpenter by trade, but spent the greater part of his life as an oil refinery worker, joining the Continental Oil Co. in 1924. He worked first in Sapulpa, Okla., then in Ponca City, Okla., and later in Glenrock where he remained until his retirement in 1952. After retirement he and Mrs. Rainey made their home in Brownsville, spending the summers in Wyoming.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; three sons, John of Lusk, Robert of Glenrock; six daughters, Mildred Matties of Orin, Helen David of Torrnace, Calif., Coreen Bafford of Lusk, Pauline Deyo of Glenrock, Mary Rock and Betty Hansen of Casper; and 31 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
