Funeral services for Florene Laverne Fenno, age 91, of Lusk, were held Dec. 19, 2007 at Everett Family Funeral Home in Gypsum, Colo., with Pastor Darin Glaghorn of Ft. Collins Cowboy Church of Fort Collins, Colo. officiating. Mrs. Fenno passed away Dec. 12, 2007, at the Niobrara County Health and Life Center in Lusk.
Florene Fenno was born Jan. 26, 1916, in Plainville, Kan., to William and Ruby (Schmidt) Heiner. As a child the family moved several times to different locations in Kansas, then in 1926 moved to Edwards, Colo. She graduated from high school in Fruitvale, Colo. On Nov. 9, 1936, she married Louis Charles Fenno in Grand Junction, Colo. They moved back to the ranch at Edwards, Colo., and lived there until moving to Eagle, Colo. when Lou's uncle changed from cattle to sheep, and Lou wasn't going to work on a sheep ranch! In 1953 Lou bought that ranch from his uncle, and went back to raising cattle. During that time their three sons were born. In 1959 they moved back to the house in Eagle. In 1968 she lost her husband, Louis. In 1990 the ranch was sold and she moved to Ft. Collins. Then in 2001 she moved to Lusk with her son John and his wife.
She spent her life as a loving housewife and mother. Florene belonged to the Rebekah Lodge in Eagle, Colo., and attended church in all the communities that she lived in: the Methodist Church in Eagle, Colo.; Ft. Collins Cowboy Church in Ft. Collins, Colo., Lance Creek Community Church in Lance Creek; and most recently Crossroad Ministries in Lusk.
Florene painted pictures that were shared with her family members, did just about any craft that you could think of and enjoyed entering them in the local fairs. Her grandchildren were very special to her, and she cherished her time with them.
She is survived by her three sons: John and Cookie Fenno of Lusk; Cliff and Nancy Fenno of Cheyenne, and Louie and Barbara Fenno of Silt, Colo.; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and by her sister Velora Hall of Toppenish, Wash.
Florene was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Naomi Schlutter, Zella Hill, and Marjorie Peach; and an infant brother, William Wesley Heiner.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Lusk Crossroad Ministries building fund, PO Box 503, Lusk, WY 82225.
A memorial service will be held in Lusk Dec. 22 at Crossroad Ministries, starting at 2 p.m.
Everett Family Funeral Home in Gypsum is in charge of arrangements.
