Mrs. Ida E. Rock Dies Early Sunday

Mrs. Ida E. Rock, 82, passed peacefully away at 5:00 o'clock, Sunday morning, October 16, 1949, at the home of her son-ln-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Marvin, with whom whe had made her home for the past 17 years.

Mrs. Rock had been ill for the past two years and for several months had been noticeably failing in health.

Ida E. Slater was born May 12, 1867, in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of James D. and Elizabeth Ann Slater.

When a young girl she came to Nebraska with her parents and eventually settled at Wayne, where she lived for a number of years, and it was here that she met and married James W. Rock and they became the parents of five children.

She was baptized and became a member of the Methodist Church of Wayne at the age of 14, and during her entire life she was devoted to her church and its activities. She spent many years as organist and choir director of various churches, serving the Methodist Church of Niobrara, Nebraska in this capacity for fifteen years. In her younger years she also taught music and dramatic art.

On Easter Sunday of this year, April 17, 1949, Mrs. Rock transferred her membership from the Grace M.E. Church of Redlands, Calif., to the First Baptist Church of Lusk.

Survivors are her three sons, Leslie W. of Chicago Heights, Ill.; Byron G. of Glenrock, Wyo.; Slater C. of Lincoln, Nebr., and two daughters, Mrs. Gladys Marvin of Lusk and Mrs. Frances E. Martin of Redlands, Calif.; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several neices and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted from the Peet Chapel on Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, with the Rev. H. T. Clark, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. The songs "Beautiful Isle" and "Jesus Lover of My Soul," were sung by a trio composed of Mrs. A. F. DeCastro, Mrs. Emerson Bonner and Miss Bessie Lumsden, with Mrs. J. P. Watson as the accompanist.

The casket bearers were Thomas 0. Miller, Hans Gautachi, Peter Paul Brown, A.B. Mills, Judson P. Watson and Emerson Bonner.

Interment was made in the Lusk cemetery.

Her sons, Byron G. Rock of Glenrock and Slater C. Rock of Lincoln, Neb., and her daughter, Mrs. Frances Martin of Redlands, Cal., were all here for the services.
