Ward Leffingwell Dies Here June 13

Ward Leffingwell of Lusk died at the Lusk Hospital on Monday, June 13. He had been a resident of Wyoming for 28 years, homesteading north of Lance Creek in 1921.

Funeral arrangements are indefinite awaiting the arrival of relatives. He is survived by a son, Henry Leffingwell of Lance Creek, and three daughters, Mrs. Juanita Krueger of Payette, Wis., Mrs. Mary Ellen Bryant of Riverton and Kate of San Diego, Calif.

Funeral Services of Ward Leffingwell
Are Held Friday

Funeral services for Ward Leffingwell were conducted from the Peet Chapel on Friday afternoon, June 17, with Rev. Lawrence P. Juell, pastor of the Congregational Church, officiating.

Music was furnished by a quartet composed of Justine Watson, Minette Watson, Louise Niles and Delorea DeCastro, with Mrs. J.P. Watson accompanist. The songs "Old Rugged Cross" and "Crossing the Bar" were rendered.

Interment was made in the Lusk cemetery, with old-time friends, Rulo Roberts, Albert Penn, J.D. McGinnis, Lee Penn, J.C. Klemke and Helmuth Klemke, carrying the remains to its last resting place.

Mr. Leffingwell died at the Lusk Hospital on June 13, where he was taken after suffering a stroke at the Rulo Roberts home, where he had been staying.

Born at Shirland, Illinois, on April 11, 1875, Mr. Leffingwell was 74 years of age at the time of his death. He was the son of Jerome and Mary Ellen Leffingwell, and his boyhood was spent at Strawberry Point, Iowa, where he received his schooling.

In 1901 he engaged in railroad work at Calmar, Iowa, and the following year was married to Miss Gertrude Hertz and they are the parents of four children.

The family came west in 1922, as Mr. Leffingwell had been transferred to Casper, Wyo., where he continued in railroad work until 1927, when he moved to the Dogie community, north of Lance Creek, where he filed on a homestead. Several years later the family moved to the Hat Creek community, where they continued to live until ill health forced the deceased to give up ranching.

Since that time Mr. Leffingwell has spent his time with his daughters at Poynette, Wis., and at Riverton, Wyo., and when in Lusk he lived at the Rulo Roberts home.

He was preceded in death by his wife Gertrude, three brothers, three sisters and three grandchildren. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Juanita Krueger of Poinette, Wis.; Mrs. Katherine Dick of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Mary Ellen Bryant of Riverton, Wyo., and one son, Henry, of this city. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Maude Lunney of Darlington, Wis., and Mrs. Lydia Aswalt of Beloit, Wis.

Out-of-town relatives here for the services were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Krueger of Poynette, Wis., Mrs. Ed Dick of San Diego, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Al Bryant of Riverton, Wyo.
