Mary Opal Henry

Rosary and scripture for Mary Opal Henry of Cheyenne, Wyoming was recited at 7 p.m., December 13, at the Schrader Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, December 14, at 10 o'clock at Holy Trinity Church. The Rev. Thomas Fahey officiated.

Interments were in Olivet Cemetery of Cheyenne.

Opal, 63, of 1427 Madison Avenue died Saturday at DePaul's Hospital.

She was born October 14, 1925, at Crawford, Nebraska, the youngest daughter of Gerald and Winifred McElmeel.

After the death of her father the family moved to Crawford. Here she completed elementary and high school. Later, she moved to Chadron. While here she completed the work for a Bachelor's Degree from the Chadron college. After moving to Cheyenne she completed work for a Master's Degree from the college at Greeley, Colorado.

She married John J. Henry of Harrison on May 26, 1952, at Sidney, Nebraska. To this union were born two children, John Paul and Mary Beth.

She taught school most of her life, several years in Sioux and Dawes counties in Nebraska, one year at Manville, Wyoming, and twenty-five years at Bain School in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church as well as the National Education Association, Wyoming Education Association, and Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority. She was also a volunteer for meals on Wheels.

She is survived by her husband, John Henry of Cheyenne; two children, and a son-in-law, John Paul of Atlanta, Georgia, Mary Beth Heyne and her husband, Kent of Zwingenberg, West Germany; a sister, Vera Anderson of Lusk, Wyoming, and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Bernice Dill and Zeta Smith.
