Deverne May Bircher
Funeral Rites for Mrs. Charles I. Bircher, Former Lusk Woman, Are Held in Cheyenne Friday Afternoon
Rev. H. W. Niermann, conducted funeral services for the late Mrs. Chas. I. Bircher at two o'clock Friday afternoon, December 24th, from the Wiederspahn and Grace Funeral home in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Interment was made in the Beth-El cemetery at Cheyenne with Milton Nichols, Lowell Quigley, Eugene Potter, James Hill, Roy Volk and Hugh Hand serving as casketbearers.
Mrs. Bircher passed away at the Memorial hospital in Cheyenne at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 22nd, following an illness of three months. At the time of her demise she was 67 years old.
Deverne May Blackmore was born June 9, 1887 in West Virginia where she spent her early life. On October 3rd, 1904, she was united in marriage to Charles I. Bircher at Bellaire, Ohio. Following their wedding, the young couple came westward to Wyoming and homesteaded near Lost Springs.
Mr. Bircher became an employee of the Chicago and North Western Railroad Company and they then made their home at Van Tassell, Wyo., and Harrison, Nebr., for a number of years. From Harrison, they moved to Lusk where they operated the Lusk Hotel for two years.
In 1937, they moved to Denver, Colo., where they made their home and operated an apartment house. Two years ago they moved to Cheyenne, Wyo., where they resided at the time of Mrs. Bircher's demise. On Oct. 3rd, 1954, the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mrs. Bircher was a member of the Pythian Sisters and Daylight Rebekah lodge of Denver.
Mr. and Mrs. Bircher became the parents of four sons, of whom only one Robert Bircher of Cheyenne, Wyo., survives.
Survivors include her husband, Chas. I. Bircher, one son, Robert Bircher of Cheyenne, Wyoming; four grandchildren, Clifford Bircher and Donald Bircher, both of Lusk, Wyo.; Miss Darla Bircher of Alliance, Nebr.; and Ronnie Bircher of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two great grandsons, Philip and Harold Bircher of Lusk, Wyo.
Among the out-of-town relatives attending last rites were Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Quinn, Donald Bircher, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Bircher, of Lusk, and Miss Darla Bircher of Alliance, Nebr. and until recently of this city.
