Lloyd "Doc" Smith, who died in his sleep at the home of his brother-in-law in Sleepy Eye, Minn. last Tuesday, was buried Friday in Lusk.
Born Lloyd Blythe Smith Oct. 6, 1900 in Terry, S.D., "Doc," as he was known to all his friends, was the eldest son of Dr. Jay Smith and Sarah Blythe Smith.
The family moved to Wyoming in 1902 finally settling in Glenrock where his father practiced medicine for many years. "Doc" attended the public schools in Glenrock and as a young man worked at the VR Ranch and in the Big Muddy Oil field. In 1927 "Doc" moved his family to the Keeline area and began ranching. He retired in 1953 and for the past several years he had lived in Lusk with his wife Alice.
His father, mother and one sister preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Alice of Lusk; one son, Jim also of Lusk; a daughter, Pat, of Node; one brother Darrell of San Diego, Calif.; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral Friday was conducted by Rev. Frank Bozart with Edna DeCastro organist. Joy Kaltenheuser sang" Rock of Ages," and "The Last Roundup."
Pallbearers were Bud Hoblit, Bernard Thon, Newton Hester, Gene Bartow and "Doc's" two grandsons, Jay Smith and Chris Christian.
