Kay Ann Holmes
Funeral services for Kay Ann Holmes, 71, were held on Friday, May 25, at Pier Funeral Home in Lusk, with Rev. Delbert Dick and Rev. David Dick officiating. Burial followed in Harrison Cemetery.
Kay passed away May 22, 2007, at her home.
She was born Sept. 24, 1935, in Harrison, Neb., to Lee Roy Shepherd and Evelyn Mae (Meier) Shepherd. Kay attended country school for four years, and 1 1/2 years in Harrison. After her father's death, her mother, stepfather, and family moved to Lingle in 1942, and she attended school there for four years and worked in the family drugstore until moving to Van Tassell and attending school in Lusk her last three years of high school, graduating in 1954.
She married Robert Wayne Holmes on Sept. 24, 1955, in Lusk. They lived in Douglas and Boulder City, Nev., until returning to the ranch at Van Tassel that was homesteaded by Bob's aunt and uncle, where she lived until the time of her death.
Kay belonged to the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and was a member of Node Homemakers from 1957 to present, holding all offices many times, and also serving on the Niobrara County Homemakers Council. She was a member of the Niobrara County Cowbelles Group III and served as president, secretary and treasurer for many years. She was appointed by the governor to serve on the Wyoming Women's Commission. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, her family and especially her grandchildren, cooking and ranch life.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, Warren Robertson, and her beloved husband of 29 years, Bob Holmes.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Neil and Kelli Holmes of the family ranch at Van Tassell, and Misty and Grant Lowe of Greeley, Colo.; her grandchildren, Thomas and Samantha Holmes and Jessica and Devin Lowe; sister Leah Ballou and husband Wayne of Hulett; brother Clyde Robertson and wife Jan of Van Tassell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Niobrara County Senior Center, PO Box 928, Lusk, WY 82225; or to the Wyoming American Heart Association.
Pier Funeral Home in Lusk was in charge of arrangements.
