Funeral Held for Wade A. Hack

Funeral services for Wade A. Hack, 80, were held last Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 in the Crawford Methodist Church with Rev. Leon Foster officiating. Burial was in the Crawford Cemetery. Pallbearers were all nephews: Don Lemons, Tom Lemons, Lyle Nichols, Bill Pierce, Loy Pierce and Charles Tollman.

Mr. Hack had died January 7 in General Rose Memorial Hospital, Denver.

He was the son of Lewis A. and Margaret (Beatty) Hack, born July 27, 1886, near Corley, Shelby County, Iowa. He moved with his parents to Dawes County in September 1894 traveling by covered wagon from Nance County, Nebr., where they had lived for three years.

They settled on a homestead four miles east of Belmont. In this community he grew to manhood and received his education. When a young man he became an employee of the Burlington Railroad, first as a brakeman and later learned to be a telegraph operator. Except for six years farming near Belmont, he made this his career. He worked as an operator and depot agent in many towns throughout Northwest Nebraska, the Black Hills of South Dakota, northeastern Colorado and eastern Wyoming. He retired at Torrington, Wyo., his last station, on July 31, 1951.

He married Bessie May Pierce of Belmont on July 27, 1913, and six children were born to them. They made their home in Crawford from 1925 until 1944, then moving to Torrington. His wife and two sisters, Mabel (Mrs. William) Fall of Royal Oak, Mich., and Maude (Mrs. Lester Nichols) of Hayward, Calif., died previously. Following the death of his wife in 1955, Mr. Hack moved to Denver where he has lived since.

Surviving are his children: Wayne, Theone and Alyce of Denver, Lois (Mrs. Walter J. Kreuscher) of Lincoln, Nebr., and Wilma (Mrs. Elmer Pullen) and James of Harrison; one sister, Mrs. Cecile Pierce of Colorado Springs; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Attending the services from Harrison were Mr. and Mrs. James Hack, Lester Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Buster Wickersham and Miss Georgia Powell.
