Memorial services for Erman Ernest Hladky were held April 30, 2007 at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery Chapel, Gillette, with Pastor Martin Crump officiating. Inurnment followed at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.
Erman Hladky died April 23, 2007 at the Sheridan Manor in Sheridan. He was 104. He was born Sept. 4, 1902 in Delia, Kansas to Edward E. and Albina Macha Hladky. He attended rural schools in Kansas. He attended the Catholic Church with his family.
He worked on the family farm until he was 19 years old and boarded a freight train and rode a rail car to Wyoming. Erman worked for ranchers in the Moorcroft area and a season hauling sugar beets in Hardin, Montana. He returned to Kansas for winter work. The following spring he returned to Wyoming and never left.
Erman married Lulu Marie Gibson from Moorcroft on June 9, 1927 in Hardin, Montana. Together they had one daughter and three sons.
Erman purchased a farm north of Gillette where they lived until 1981 when he retired and moved to Sheridan. While operating his farm he worked as a carpenter and construction worker. He helped build the football field behind Twin Spruce School, which was done with horses.
Erman loved ranch work, attending farm sales, fishing and playing cards. He was a member of the Elks Lodge.
Erman was able to live alone in his own home with the help of his neighbors, Walline and Marvin Johnson, until two months prior to his 104th birthday at which time he moved to the Sheridan Manor. Erman had a remarkable memory and loved to visit about old times. He was honored as Sheridan County's oldest citizen on his 103rd birthday.
Erman is survived by two sons, Spike Hladky and wife Margaret Ann of Gillette; Bob Hladky and wife Shirley of Lusk, seven grandchildren, Linda Coxbill and Lori Franzen of Wright, Karen Haller of Las Vegas, Nevada, Bobbie Jo Wade of Big Piney, Troy Hladky of Lusk, Sheri Hester of Keeline, Tracy Johnson of Lingle and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Erman was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lulu, infant daughter Audrey, son Clifford, nine brothers and two sisters.
