Dana Rex Harris

Memorial services for Dana R. Harris, 56, were held Monday April 23 at Lighthouse Ministries with Pastor Rick Carroll officiating. Internment followed in the Veteran section of Valley View Cemetery with Military Honors. Mr. Harris passed away on April 18, 2007 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette after a very brief battle with cancer. Cremation has taken place.

He was born Dana Rex Harris, the son of Arthur Eugene and Joan (DesEnfants) Harris on May 28, 1950 in Torrington. At the age of three the family moved to Lost Springs and made their life and living as wheat farmers.

After graduating at semester from Niobrara County High School in 1968, Dana left Wyoming to pursue a degree in Law Enforcement at Lansing Community College in Mich. Dana married Sandra French on March 15, 1969.

Born to them were their daughter Deanna and their son Trevor. Dana enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1969. Due to the fact he excelled in boot camp he was assigned to sea school and served aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard during the Vietnam War. He then served at the 32nd Street navel station in San Diego, Calif. and MCRD also in San Diego. He then was sent to serve in Thailand and Okinawa Japan. Dana returned to Camp Pendleton for the remainder of his active duty. He attained expert marksmanship in rifle and pistol as well as serving in intelligence. Dana was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant in 1976.

The family moved back to Wyoming where he drove heavy equipment for Exxon and Bear Creek Uranium in Glenrock. Then after five years the family moved to Lusk where Dana pursued a career as owner/operator truck driver for 28 years. He was a Life member of the VFW Post #3511 in Lusk and he enjoyed hunting.

Survivors include his wife Sandi of Lusk; mother Joan Harris of Torrington; brother Dean Harris of Lusk; daughter Deanna Maston of Gillette; son Trevor Harris of Madison, Wis.; five grandchildren Preston, Miranda, Kayla, Makenzy, Dillen and one expected great grandchild named Landon. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents and his father Eugene Harris.
