A local memorial service for George J. Chikos, 33, was held Wednesday, Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lusk Elks Lodge followed by a coffee. Funeral services were held Aug. 29 at the Greek Orthodox Church, 810 1st Ave., in Bayard, Neb. with the Rev. Ted Tsitsilianos officiating. Interment was in the Bayard Cemetery.
A Trisagion prayer service was held Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m. at the Christensen Funeral Home at Bridgeport, Neb. In lieu of flowers, the George J. Chikos Memorial Fund has been established. He died Sunday, Aug. 26, 1990 in a Rapid City, S.D., hospital.
Chikos was born Feb. 11, 1957 in Bridgeport to Theodore J. and Mary Megas Chikos. While living in Lusk he worked for Niobrara County crews from April 1986 to April 12, 1990. He was particularly proud of his service as a member of the Lusk Volunteer Fire Department while living in Lusk.
He is survived by his mother, Mary of Bridgeport; son, Cody, of Sedalia, Colo.; brothers; John of Baton Rouge, La.; Pete of Renton, Wash.; Michael of Norfolk, Neb.; James of Rapid City; Daniel of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; a sister, Irene Pappas of Bayard and a special friend, Vicky Oehlert and her son Shawn of Gillette.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, Theodore J. Chikos.
Christensen Funeral Home in Bridgeport was in charge of arrangements.
