Perry Clark Bell dies March 12
Perry Clark Bell who died at his ranch home on March 12 at the age of 76, was buried in the Harrison Cemetery on Saturday. Funeral service was held at the Houston Funeral Home in Crawford at 2:00 o'clock.
The funeral was conducted by Pastor Liebelt. Music was furnished by Mrs. John Skavdahl, Mrs. Harry Serres, Mrs. Ted King, and Mrs. Vernon Schaefer. Organist was Mrs. Ruth Hall.
Pallbearers were Gayle Oldaker, George Leeling Jr., Dean Bass, Dick Herren, Ivol Buckley and Jim Soester. Honorary bearers were Bud Kennedy, Laurance Bannan, John Zimmerman, Dan Fisher, and Eldon Fox.
He was born September 26, 1898, in Portsmouth, Iowa, to John and Rena Bell. When he was 6 they moved to Redding Calif, Hood River, Ore., and then in 1907 to Persia, Iowa. At the age of 13 Perry worked with his father in a blacksmith shop and in 1918 the family moved to Nebraska. In 1920 Perry worked in the brick yards in Laramie, Wyo. In 1921 the family moved to Sioux County.
On June 20, 1922, he married Lola Hatfield. After a year at the paternal home the young couple established their own home on the Henry Pope place then moved to their present home in 1924 where they homesteaded on 80 acres.
Seven children were born: Roy of Minatare, Loran of Crawford, Lela May who died in infancy, Lola Vyonne Baird who died in 1965, Opal Olivas of Crawford, Gene of Harrison and Letha Oldaker of Harrison. Rick Kosinski also shared the home during his high school years.
In 1941 Mr. and Mrs. Bell were baptized into the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Crawford, and in subsequent years he was an elder. In 1972 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Survivors besides his wife and children are his mother, Rena Jane Bell of Independence, Mo.; three brothers, Harvey of Grand Junction, Colo., Archie of Independence, Mo., and Walter of Dubois, Wyo.; one sister, Gladys Everett of Eureka, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
