Roy ZumBrunnen Niobrara Rancher And Resident 82 Years Dies Sun.

Roy ZumBrunnen, 86, long time resident of Niobrara County, died Sunday in Torrington. Funeral service was held Tuesday, Jan. 25, at 2:00 p.m. in the Peet Chapel.

Masonic service was conducted by the Harmony Masonic Lodge at the chapel with burial at the Kirtley cemetery. The Reverend Ronald Sims, Episcopal minister from Torrington officiated at the service. Soloist, Dan Christian, sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "When I've Gone the Last Mile of the Way" accompanied by Mrs. Judson Watson at the organ.

Honorary pallbearers were Andrew Christian, C. E. Marvin, Glen Willson, Ray Christian, Don Taylor, Harlan Lohr, Sam Thomas Sr., Tress Powell, Levern James and Arthur Thompson.

Casket bearers were Ted Lohr, Everett Kilmer, John Hammond, Harry Sides, Gene Lohr and Bob Fancher.

Roy Leslie ZumBrunnen, second son of Jacob and Ida Williams ZumBrunnen, was born in Red Oak, Iowa, September 14, 1885.

His parents moved to Wyoming in the spring of 1889 and settled in what was called the Pleasant Ridge community, north east of Lusk, now know as Kirtley. He attended the schools of the community and spent his entire life there where he was engaged in the farming and ranching industry until his retirement in 1964. In 1906, he filed his homestead near his parents' ranch, which was the beginning of his present place.

He was a lifetime member of the Baptist Church, a long-time member of the Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

On June 10, 1907, he married Bama Teakell of Bowie, Texas, in Harrison. They were the parents of four children, Leslie of Lusk, Aubrey of Kearney, Neb., Lloyd of Portland, Ore., and Bama Eunice who died in infancy. His wife, Bama, preceded him in death in June 1964.

On August 12, 1968, he and Leona Mitchel of Kearney, Neb., were married at Harrison.

He is survived by his wife Leona, two brothers, Thomas of Salisbury, N.C., Walter of Louisburg, Kan., and three sisters, Nellie Christian of Lusk, Dorcas Bigelow, Scottsbluff, Neb. and Edna Ammons of Denver, Colo., three sons, Leslie, Aubrey and Lloyd, and one stepson Harry Mitchell, Kearney, Neb., two stepdaughters Mrs. Dennis Hill (Laura) of Omaha, Neb., and Mrs. Neil (Linda) Scheuneman of Medford, Oregon, an aunt Lena Rote, Monroe, Wisc., and by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Two brothers Lee and Stanley, his parents, and one stepbrother Ray Whipple died previously.
