William R. Zerbst

William R. Zerbst, a rancher on the Cheyenne River in northern Niobrara County, died at his ranch home May 29, 1985. He was 75.

Mr. Zerbst was born March 7, 1910, in Omaha, Neb., the son of Charles and Helen Zerbst. He attended various country schools in Niobrara County and was graduated from the eighth grade in Lance Creek.

He worked at the sugar beet factory in Torrington and helped construct St. Joseph's Children's Home there. Mr. Zerbst then homesteaded in north Niobrara County with his father and brother on the Cheyenne River. He continued ranching until his death. He married Edna Butolph April 23, 1940, at Newcastle.

He is survived by three sons, Robert of Rozet, Glen of Newcastle and Leonard of the family ranch; a daughter, Irma Wasserburger of Lusk; a sister, Marjorie Marchant of Lusk; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother.

Funeral services were Saturday, June 1, at McColley Chapel in Newcastle. The Rev. Norm Brotzman of the Assembly of God Church officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Newcastle

A memorial has been established to St. Joseph's Children's Home.

The McColley Funeral Home of Newcastle handled arrangements.
