Funeral Mass for Father John Dennett, 86, of Scottsbluff, Neb., was held Oct. 10, 2003 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering, Neb., with Father Gerald Harr officiating. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff.
Father Dennett died Oct. 6, 2003, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
He was born Sept. 27, 1917, at Highland Park, Ill., to Charles and Margaret (McDonald) Dennett.
He was a 1939 graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., with a degree in accounting. He served in the US Army Air Corps from 1942-1946. Following his military service he spent time working at the St. Augustine Indian Mission at Winnebago, Neb. His seminary training was received at Blue Cloud Benedictine Abbey in South Dakota and at St. Thomas Seminary in Denver, Colo. He was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop John L. Paschang in St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island, Neb., on May 26, 1962.
Father Dennett served as Chaplain at St. Mary's Hospital in North Platte, Neb., and as assistant Pastor in Greeley, Neb., Long Pine and Holy Rosary parish in Alliance. He then served as pastor in Harrison, Montrose, Bayard, Minatare, Stapleton and Arnold. Upon his retirement in 1979 he lived in Harrison, Neb., Arizona and Lusk.
In 1999 he moved to Beverly Health Care Center in Scottsbluff.
He is survived by his sister Dorothy Gallagher of Highland Park, Ill., and his brother Edward of Trenton, Fla.
