Sam Wood Dies Friday; Services Are Held Monday

Samuel J. Wood, 59, of Lusk, died Friday morning from a lingering illness due to diabetes and added complications. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Peet Chapel with Rev. Frank Bozart officiating. Burial was made in the Lusk Cemetery.

A mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Otha B. Holcomb, Mrs. A. F. DeCastro, E. E. Davenport and Harry Lyon sang "In the Garden" and "Evening Prayer." Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist.

Pall bearers were Lloyd Pilcher, Vern Sowers, Don Keys, Archie Huey, Nick Kaan and Don Paisley.

Samuel Joseph Wood was born April 30, 1898 in LeMars, Ia., the son of Andrew Jackson and Elizabeth Wood. His boyhood years were spent in LeMars, coming to Lusk at the age of 18.

August 12, 1919 he and Miss Emily Lorenzen of Lusk were married. They established a home in Lusk where they have since resided.

Mr. Wood was employed by the Wyoming State Highway Department for 17 years, the Texaco Bulk Plant, five years, and by the Town of Lusk in the Power and Water department for 14 years. He had suffered for many years with diabetes, and because of failing health gave up active employment in 1952.

He was a member of Custer Lodge No. 21, I.O.O.F. for 35 years, and a past noble grand of the lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Emily, two brothers, Andrew J. and Walter L. Wood both of Los Angeles and one sister, Mrs. Lola Dale of Seattle. His parents and two brothers, one in infancy and Sol L. Wood of Lusk previously died.

Out-of-town relatives and friends here for the services were Mrs. Katherine Wood, Janice and Carol, Chugwater; Mr. and Mrs. James Winifield, Casper; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Pilcher, Guernsey and Mr. and Mrs. Vern Sowers, Cheyenne.
