Catherine Sheldon

Catherine Sheldon, long-time Laramie resident, died Feb. 26, 2007, in Sundance.

She was born April 18, 1920, to Flora Cutter Christian and Leonard Franklin Christian in Harrison, Neb. She grew up on a cattle ranch north of Lusk.

She graduated from Niobrara County High School in 1937 and from the University of Wyoming in 1941 with a B.A. in journalism. She owned the Campus Shop for a time in the mid-1940's and married James A. Sheldon on Nov. 28, 1946. He died in 1970, but she continued to live in Laramie until September 2005 when she moved into her daughter's home in Sundance.

She was proud of her journalism training and put it to use in many forms. She was also active in various creative writing groups. She enjoyed bird watching, music, politics, and world affairs.

She is survived by her daughters, Jamie Dieterich and her husband, Bob of Cromberg, Calif; and Carol Jones and her husband Roger, of Sundance; three grandchildren, Naomi Morton Knight and her husband Craig, of Gillette, David Jones of Casper and Matt Jones of Pasadena, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Coulter and Finnegan Knight of Gillette and Kathryn and Patrick Jones of Casper.
